Your one stop shop for seed potatoes
Hello
This issue if for all of us out there still wondering what price we need for our potatoes to make it another year. Gordon Harmon, a subscriber, has sent the following tables and information and I would like to thank him for the input of information. The potato industry is in a transition phase and if we don't all work together, the number of growers will be even fewer. I would like to reiterate a few lines that were on every page Gordon sent:
We're all in this together so don’t be afraid to get a good price for your potatoes, everyone else is and with counts at 50 cents a pound in the grocery stores lets ask the question – What else can you buy for 50 cents a pound?
Remember the price of potatoes is set by the grower. If you sell for $2.00 that sets the price at $2.00 If you won’t sell for less than $5.00 that will set the market at that price.
Don't cut yourselves short, potato growers should get what they need to survive and if we keep shooting ourselves in the foot it is hard to stay with the pack.
TTFN,
Wyatt

The following tables are from one of our newsletter readers Gordon Harmon. Gordon has a program that helps predict the production cost of potatoes. The first set of tables are assumed costs for production to get a total per acre and the next tables are the cost of production with the sale price per acre to break even depending on the sacks per acre and the price to sell at for a 12% profit. Please use these tables and if you would like to have the program get in contact with Gordon E-mail - harfarm@pcaxxess.net business phone/fax - 208-238-0997. He says it just takes a disk so if you think it would help your operation, get in contact with him.
