Canadians Blame Overproduction for PEI Potato Ban

Canadians claim the U.S. ban of PEI potatoes is not based on science.  They say politics is behind it, claming that sence Idaho and Washington are 30 million hundredweight overproduced this year; And the baned PEI potatoes total 29.6 million hundredweigh.  The U.S. has told Canada it must "strictly adhere" to a two-page list of its demands, drafted Dec. 29, including a ban on movement of P.E.I. seed potatoes within Canada.

Researchers Discover Natural Herbicide

Scientists with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service (ARS) have been studying lichens, which are both a fungus and an alga. The researchers have discovered that a natural compound in the lichens functions as an herbicide effect on barley, cucumbers and lettuce.
